Medieval Fortress of Corvin Castle in Hunedoara, Romania

Perched atop a rocky hillside under a clear blue sky dotted with wispy clouds is the majestic Corvin Castle - one of the largest medieval castles built by humans to date. Constructed between 1377–1382 for King Sigismund of Luxembourg as part of his defensive system against Ottoman invasions along the Transylvanian border, this formidable structure stands testament to Gothic architecture's grandeur. Its imposing towers reach towards the heavens while its thick stone walls offer protection from invaders. A covered drawbridge connects it to the mainland over a moat that reflects sunlight, adding an ethereal quality around what has been described as 'the last great castle built in Europe'. Today, visitors can explore every nook and cranny within these ancient stones where history comes alive through interactive exhibits and guided tours.
