Mathematical Bridge in Cambridge
Spanning the River Cam at Queens' College of the University of Cambridge is an iconic example of mathematics-inspired architecture - the Mathematical Bridge. This historic covered bridge was designed by William III's Master Mason, John Vavasour, but its name comes from folklore that it could only be built using mathematical principles without any nails. It features a series of symmetrical arches supported by slender oak timbers. A figure clad in yellow walks along one side while vibrant flowers bloom in the foreground under a clear blue sky, suggesting this idyllic scene might have been captured during spring or summer.
