Heroes' Square in Budapest
Heroes' Square is an iconic public square located at the foot of the Royal Palace hill (Gellért Hill) overlooking the Danube River in Budapest, Hungary. It commemorates the Millennium of the Hungarian Conquest by Árpád and his followers in AD 896. At its heart stands the Millennium Monument, which was designed to celebrate this millennium anniversary and depicts the leaders who played significant roles during the conquest. Surrounding the monument are statues representing various historical Hungarian figures from different periods of history. The statue that commands attention here is the equestrian statue of King Matthias Corvinus, one of Hungary's most famous rulers. This magnificent bronze statue sits atop a pedestal adorned with bas-reliefs depicting scenes related to the king's life and reign. The surrounding gardens boast vibrant flower beds bursting with red flowers against a backdrop of autumnal trees under a clear blue sky, creating a picturesque setting for visitors to enjoy.
